Śambara, Asura King (Śambara)
One of the four great Asura kings in Buddhism, known as the 'King of Illusion'. Skilled in using inconceivable grand illusions to reverse the perception of friend and foe, he achieved great feats in the celestial wars. Esoteric Buddhism regards him as a guardian who destroys delusion.

Scriptures record that King Śambara possesses a hundred kinds of wondrous battle-formation powers, capable of causing powerful enemies to fall into illusions of killing each other. In Vajrayana doctrine, He is interpreted as a mighty wisdom war god who 'treats illusion with illusion' and sees through all false appearances of the mundane world.
