What is the Guanyin Oracle?
The Guanyin Oracle (观音灵签) is one of the most widely practiced forms of divination in East Asia. Found in almost every Buddhist and Taoist temple, it consists of a cylinder containing 100 bamboo sticks (lots).
Seekers kneel before the statue of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, and shake the cylinder until a single stick falls out. This stick corresponds to a specific poetic prophecy that answers their prayer.
